On Thursday 13th June the Year 7/8 Athletic s teams competed in the Area Championships at Toothill School. On a wet and windy afternoon 70 students represented the school in a number if track and field events scoring points towards the overall team prize. In the Year 7 competition Orin Phillips was the stand out performer on the track winning both the 100m/200m with an outstanding NEW SCHOOL 200M RECORD time of 25.5 seconds (a time which would on current UK Athletics ranking place him in the top 10 in England for his age!!). In the field it was Bradley Saywell that dominated the boys javelin from start to finish throwing 15.04m to win first place. The year 7 girls pretty much dominated the whole track programme winning an abundance of races with Alanna Currie (100m) and Ashleigh Edwards (100m) both comfortably winning their respective races and a number of other strong performances in the distance events.
In the Year 8 competition once again the girls continued to dominate with Megan Rowe (100m) and Abi Burgess (100m) performing superbly to gain maximum points and highlight the girls strength in the sprint events and in the year 8 boys competition strong showings from Shaun Bramley (100m + 200m) and Luis Kelk ensured West Bridgford continued to pull away in the team competition. At the end of a rain shortened event Bridgford girls comfortably won both year 7 and 8 competitions while the Year 7 boys 2nd and Year 8 Boys 4th ensured 1st place in the overall competition. If any athletes want to continue their athletics involvement through the summer please see the PE Dept and we will pass on some information. Well done to all involved and remaining enthusiastic and positive in terrible athletics conditions!!!
