What an amazing day!
Today, we celebrated Mexico. The whole school took part in the Mexican Wave. Some pupils and staff dressed in sombreros and ponchos, which only added to the atmosphere being so incredible. Everybody made their way onto the school field with Mexican music playing and a huge Mexican flag was paraded round the field. Once everybody was in position, the cheers and giggles erupted as the wave made its way from the year 12& 13’s round to year 7s. The atmosphere then carried through to lunch with the canteen decorated in Mexican colours, music playing and a fantastic menu of Mexican food. The queues were a sign of how great the food was and many pupils were willing to try something different. Our year 8 helpers had plenty of positive feedback. Some year 10 pupils provided entertainment part way through each lunch with a brilliant performance of the ‘Hat dance’. There was also a quiz with clues to answers provided on the eye-catching displays provided by pupils with facts about Mexican culture.
The underlying purpose of these events is to provide opportunities to learn about and celebrate aspects of different cultures from around the world – the fun and the thought-provoking. Our culture days (1 per term) provide ample opportunity to recognise, celebrate and value cultural diversity and this is exactly what we did today.
