West Bridgford Cross Country runners excel in muddy Mansfield!
Saturday November 23rd saw Race Two of the three race Nottinghamshire Schools Cross Country Series and once again Bridgford excelled with 40 athletes competing to ensure all four teams remain in the hunt for team medals at the third and final league race on December 14th.
In the Year 7 Boys event another fine showing from team leader Flynn Cross (6th), Anton Stoger (9th), George McLaren (10th), Matthew Aldred (21st) and first timer John Swallow (33rd) ensured the team finished overall 2nd.
In the year 7 event Hannah Noble once again ran a fine race to finish in the top ten in eight place and she was backed up with strong runs from the rest of the team to finish 3rd team overall.
The year 8/9 girls, who won convincingly in race one, repeated this showing with another outstanding team performance. The team had 9 athletes in the first 33 places with Bella Reed leading the ‘A’ team home in 3rd place and Ellie Moppett leading home the ‘B’ team in 22nd place.
However, it was to be the Year 8/9 Boys who turned in the performance of the day proving far too strong for the opposition to take team honours beating Nottingham High School and Toothill. In fact West Bridgford fielded 13 athletes from year 8/9 boys which goes to show the strength and interest we have within the two year groups.
With just one fixture remaining on SATURDAY DECEMBER 14th the Year 7 girls are in 3rd place (just 9 points off of 2nd place!), Year 7 boys are in 2nd place and Year 8/9 Boys and Girls are both in GOLD medal position…a strong performance in December should see West Bridgford once again demonstrate the talent and interest we have in cross country running!!
