On Saturday December 14th West Bridgford athletes left with several honours in the third and final Nottinghamshire Schools Cross Country Event at Sutton Ashfield claiming numerous team and individual medals.
This event was the culmination of four tough winter races and the students as has often been the case stepped up and performed above and beyond expectations. The year 7 girls took team SILVER medals ( a great effort in their first season), but it was in the Year 8/9 category where performances really stood out. The girls gained GOLD team medals and not wanting to be outdone the boys also gained GOLD medals, in fact the boys ‘B’ team claimed the BRONZE medals which once again highlights the strength and quality of athletes we have taking part. Special mention should also go to Bella Reed who claimed individual BRONZE medal as a result of finishing overall third in the league standings and also to Year 9 Charlie Hammond who showed real determination and guts to take on the pace setting and eventually finish a highly credible 4th place!
As a result of winning both girls and boys competitions the school where Awarded the NOTTINGHAMSHIRE SCHOOLS JUNIOR LEAGUE CUP for best combined scores. Once again a brilliant Cross Country season has resulted in the biggest turn out of athletes we have ever had, in fact this year over 100 different students have ran Cross Country for the school in one of the four events. In addition to these huge numbers we have also had some real quality with so many fine individual performances with students improving race on race. A tremendous effort by all, WELL DONE!!
