Bridgford shine at Chilwell in goal fest

After a superb team display at Becket last month Bridgford arrived at Chilwell on a high hoping to demonstrate an assortment of crisp passing, phenomenal effort, sensational skill and some goals!! The weather reflected our moods – we were raring to go and ready to claim a win.
However as kick-off drew nearDSC 4057er our high spirits faltered and were replaced with nervous tension. After a wait that seemed a lifetime to us the match started. Bridgford were represented by Andrew King, Charlie Lilley, Tom Carver, Elliot Newman, Vince Machin, Eddie Townsend, Sam Lacy, Alex Nolan, Freddie Langrishe, Amaan Razak ,Aidan Bernard Carlin and Zack Worton as Sub. Right from the outset Bridgford got off to a storming start with a flurry of one-touch football that thwarted the opposition in the early stages. When Chilwell had a rare amount of possession Bridgford showed a ruthless streak of tenacious tackling. This was shown when the combined effort of our Winger Eddie and central midfielder Sam won the ball with a bundle of effort; it was then spread to Alex who exchanged and quick one-two with Freddie and then put through Aidan for a cool finish that was slotted past the bewildered keeper on the 8 minute mark. 1-0 Bridgford! Bridgford then dominated for the next 10 minutes with simple but highly effective play. However no end product occurred – was this a chance for Chilwell? Yes, after a quick counter attack the ball was squared from the by line and it was converted into the billowing net. 1-1 – 20 mins Chilwell back in the game. As Chilwell retained the attacking prowess that gifted them the equaliser, Bridgford’s defence stayed solid throughout with full-backs Charlie and Vince preventing any dangerous crosses and Elliot and Tom blocking all potential through balls. As half-time grew closer Bridgford vied for a crucial second goal that would put them ahead at half-time. The second goal came out of nothing with a sliced clearance that fell into the path of Sam who thumped it into the left-bottom corner just before half-time. We came off the field feeling hopeful of a win.DSC 4060
However we were a little too complacent with Chilwell’s first chance bringing a great save from Andrew but the rebound fell into the path of their striker who capitalised and struck home 1 minute after the restart. Another goal flew in but this time in our favour with Aidan fantastically converting a mazy run that tore the oppositions defence apart into the top corner. 3-2 – Advantage Bridgford! Once again we demonstrated a spell of great passing with the ball being brought out from the back with Sam and Alex spreading it out wide to Eddie and Freddie who whipped in various balls that led to a controlled tap in for Aidan’s hat trick on the 45 minute mark. Sadly for Chilwell, there was no way back as a long looping ball from         Tom led to a calm finish from Sam led to 5-2 from Bridgford. Tough tackles were still in order with the ball being won back in crucial areas with hard but fair tackling. One final push from Bridgford enabled a final goal on 56 mins as sub Zack won the ball and played an arcing pass for Eddie who slotted the ball in the gaping goal. We played out the game with short passing around the weathered pitch. As the final whistle blew we were ecstatic as we recorded a sensation 6-2 score!
Well done to everyone who took part in the amazing result and thanks to Mr Kent for organising the match. Overall, a great performance from all the players!!
