Well, it doesn’t seem 3 months since our Black Forest Gateaux, following on from our trip to the same area 2 years ago! This time, 42 students along with Mr Dyer, Mrs McKee, Mrs Youdale, Noah Noutch and 2 other peripa-tetic teachers, Mrs Williams and Mrs Seedhouse, endured a 17 hour coach/ferry trip to this absolutely beautiful area of South West Germany. We stayed in Freiburg, vis-iting Titisee and Colmar (a stunning town over the border in France) to give concerts to our European neighbours. We stayed in Freiburg Youth Hostel, also enjoying activities such as bowling and shopping. The concerts included memorable performances by the Jazz Band and String Ensemble along with small music groups such as boys’ and girls’ separate string quartets, brass group, vocal solos and of course the soon-to-be-world-famous WB barbershop group! Each concert finished with eve-ryone involved in a performance of ‘Skyfall’ led by WBS’s answer to Adele, Jenny Willett.
In our 1st concert, the Year 7 girls’ string quartet were happily playing their ‘Uno Bow Sere-nade’ when a sudden wind blew up – all the music went up into the air like a tornado-swept-mass, the music stands and microphone stands blew over, the 1st Clarinet stand suddenly had the Drum Kit music, the 2nd Violin was lumbered with the Bass Guitar tabs – BUT THE GIRLS CARRIED ON! It was wonderful that our audience stayed put as well – it could have been a disaster – but wasn’t – it merely broke the ice and the rest of the concert received a very warm German reception!
The other 2 concerts went with much more ease, but the final day was SO HOT…….Phew!
