The junior ski trip, for Year 9 pupils, visited Pila in the Italian Alps during half term. The trip was a huge success thanks to the pupils involved. They were excellently behaved all week which allowed them to make the most of their holiday. It is more than likely that this holiday will be one that they remember for a very long time; their first holiday away with their friends, their first holiday away from their parents.
There was plenty of skiing for everyone involved, from the beginners to the more advanced. Each group was tailored to the ability of the skier; the beginners were confident enough to ski down red slopes by the end of the week, and the advanced group were able to improve their technique to tackle challenging off piste routes.
The staff kept a blog of the pupils holiday which included photos of everyone during all of the different activities. www.wbspila2016blog.wordpress.com Parents found this to be a fantastic resource to be kept up to date as to how everyone was getting on and seeing what their children were up to.
There was not only skiing to be done, there was plenty of après events to keep everyone entertained. Monday was quiz night, on Tuesday everyone enjoyed Pizza, Wednesday was Bowling, on Thursday we went to an ice cream parlour in Aosta and on Friday the pupils were awarded their certificates from their instructors.
One of the best aspects of the trip was definitely the food. There is no way that the pupils would have kept their energy levels high if it wasn’t for the fantastic continental breakfast every morning. Our hotel looked after us very well making sure that everyone was properly fuelled for the day ahead.
I am sure that the current Yr 8s cannot wait for their trip to Pila next year in 2017.
