The Forest Vase Final was finally upon us and after a tough route to the final, there was both nervousness and excitement among the lads.
After settling into the game it was Nottingham Academy who had the first chance of the game and if not for a great last ditch challenge from Toby Hullis would have taken the lead. From this point forward the first half was dominated by West Bridgford with Matt Floyd leading from the back and Josh Steer and Alex Swallow playing some beautiful passing football in the middle of the park. It looked as though it was only a matter of time before we took the lead. Nottingham Academy held on till half time and we went into the break at 0-0.
The second half began and 10 minutes in Nottingham Academy took the lead with a long ball from the back, evading our centre halves leaving the opposition centre forward with an easy finish. 1-0 down and 20 minutes left on the clock West Bridgford once again started to apply pressure and got back to their passing football. With the game becoming more stretched chances were being created at both ends of the field, although it was once again the West Bridgford lads who looked the most dangerous with ball after ball, being put into the Nottingham Academy box. The best chance possibly came in the final seconds of the game with a corner being put into the box again and all the players, including keeper Elliot Seaton, looking to get their head on the ball. The ball broke loose on the edge of the box and a controlled half volley just went over the bar.
A massive credit must go to all the boys who played last night in terms of the way they tried to play football and also how they conducted themselves throughout the evening. A thankyou also goes out to all staff , students and parents who came to show their support last night and throughout the year.
