The West Bridgford School

A Specialist Technology Academy

16-19 Bursary

The 16-19 Bursary Fund is a government scheme to help students who might otherwise struggle with the costs of their Post-16 studies.

The school's primary duty is to pay bursaries of £1,200 to those students in the following groups: young people in care, care leavers, young people in receipt of income support and disabled young people who are also in receipt of Disability Living Allowance.

Once these awards have been made, it is the school's intention to use the remaining monies (minus a small sum to cover administration costs) to prioritise two groups of students; these being:

- students who would be eligible for free school meals (household income of up to £16,190) and

- students from other lower income households (household income of up to £22,000).

The bursary will be paid in termly instalments and will be conditional on the student maintaining good attendance.  We will be expecting students who qualify to have an attendance rate of above 95% to guarantee full payment.

In order to ensure that the monies are distributed fairly we will require to see supporting documentation for household income such as P60, Tax Credit Award Notice, evidence of benefit awards or evidence of self-employment income.  Please be assured that all such information given to the school in support of an application will always be treated in the strictest confidence.

If you feel that your son/daughter may be eligible for the full or the conditional award and you wish to apply for a bursary for them, please contact Mr Smith by either by letter or e-mail by Monday 3rd November or, if you require more information, please do telephone me at school.
