The West Bridgford School - A Specialist Technology College
School Uniform Policy
Pupils should wear:
- Plain trousers in mid-grey.
- A plain skirt in mid-grey. The skirt should be of knee high length, however, just above or below the knee is acceptable. Very short skirts are unacceptable.
- School blazer with school badge.
- A plain shirt with sleeves and collar in WHITE (this must be long enough to tuck in and the collar must fasten) (boys).
- Blouse purchased from the school’s supplier (girls).
- The school tie (boys).
- Socks (black or grey), or tights (plain, black or grey).
- A school sweater may optionally be worn in addition to the blazer.
- A school cap may be worn in the school grounds, but not indoors. Any other cap is not permitted.
- Plain sensible black shoes.
- Religious garments such as the Hijab, Turban and Kippah must be black or plain navy blue. The school uniform should be visibly seen and if the hijab is longer than the shoulder, the blazer should be worn on top of it. Garments that may represent a health and safety risk to a child in the school environment should not be worn.
Outdoors:
- A plain dark coloured outdoor coat may be worn in addition to the blazer. A sensible coat provides warmth in winter and protection from inclement weather. We do not consider sports tops, hoodies, fleeces, leather jackets and other fashion items to be coats. The coat must be plain with no additional decoration, badges, lettering or studs.
- A plain navy blue or black scarf (optional)
Pupils must not wear
- Jewellery of any kind. (Pupils with pierced ears may wear only small plain studs – one per ear. No other studs are permissible.)
- Nail varnish or excessive make-up.
- Hair bands or hair ribbons in any colour other than plain black or navy.
- High or stiletto heeled shoes, sling back or toeless shoes, sandals or flip-flops.
- Trainers.
- Coloured undergarments and undergarments containing lettering which may be visible through the shirt.
- Clothing in leather or denim.
- Sportswear or hooded tops (hoodies).
- Leggings, footless or patterned tights.
There should be no extreme hairstyles or unnatural variations in the colour of hair which have the effect of drawing attention to the student concerned. In decising when hairstyles cannot be allowed because they have this effect, the Head Teacher will take account of the practicality of a student adopting a different hairstyle and the school's equality policies.
